On Sunday afternoon, Fan Zhendong, the most well-known fan of Taylor Swift in China, achieved his long-awaited individual Olympic gold medal. With just the team events remaining, the nine-time world champion continued China’s winning streak in Olympic table tennis by defeating Sweden’s Truls Möregårdh in four tight sets. China had already won the women’s singles and mixed doubles competitions. Now, it added the men’s singles crown to its collection of victories. Since the sport’s 1988 Olympic debut, China has won 35 of the 40 gold medals and 63 of the 118 overall medals.
